A 59-year-old Warsaw woman will be in Essex County Circuit Court in June for her alleged involvement in a 2024 Tappahannock traffic fatality.
A bench trial has been set for June 5 for Michele Ann King.
A Grand Jury indicted King in October on a felony charge of manslaughter-DUI for the incident that occurred on July 1, 2024 along Water Lane. King is the alleged operator of a vehicle that struck 80-year-old Diane P. Kean, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
King, who remains free on bond while awaiting trial, also faces misdemeanor charges of Driving while Intoxicated/Drugs, Reckless Driving, and Obstruction. She was originally scheduled to stand trial on April 16.
In a brief Essex Circuit Court docket on March 19, the following matters were heard by Judge John S. Martin:
• Trevell Lee Brooks was sentenced to three years in prison with the entire term suspended except to time served for a period of five years. Brooks entered a guilty plea to a charge of operating a motor vehicle while his license was revoked.
Other terms of Brooks’s sentence include that he be placed on supervised probation for not more than five years, and his driving privileges will be suspended for three years.
• Christy N. English appeared for arraignment on a probation violation and was appointed attorney William Viverette to represent her. A status hearing was set for April 2.
• Heather Baber was approved as counsel for Reginald Marvella Smith who faces multiple felony charges regarding the distribution of Schedule I or II drugs. Attorney David Eberline withdrew as Smith’s attorney due to a conflict. Smith will return to court on April 2 for a status hearing.
